Location: Bloomington, ILJob Type: DirectJob Description:GENERAL SUMMARY:--- Specializes in Surgical Services offered in different practice areas under the direction of the RN. --- Performs activities such as scrub person, first assistant, educator, transporter, assistant circulator, and housekeeper.--- Prepares and operates equipment needed in the care of the patient.--- Understands and follows the standards and recommended practices according to AORN when assisting physicians during treatments, procedures and examinations.--- Recognizes significant conditions and reactions and notifies the RN, Charge Nurse, Anesthesia Charge Doctor, and/or the patient's Physician of the patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents.--- Demonstrates knowledge and practice of patient safety principles through annual evaluations--- Assumes responsibility for: family contact, departmental duties, personnel responsibilities, material management, communication, and housekeeping responsibilities. --- Performs as scheduled in the "on-call" requirements for Surgery. This includes responding within departmental time parameters. --- Provides care for patients and family/significant others across the life span based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of patients served in assigned service area.QUALIFICATIONS:SKILLS OR SPECIALIZATION REQUIRED:A. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology.B. License: None requiredC. Work Experience / Training: One year's prior experience within the hospital environment preferred. D. Job Knowledge: Basic understanding of appropriate standards and recommended practices. Knowledge of nursing process to assess, analyzes, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care under supervision of a RN. Possesses current comprehensive knowledge and skills in health care. Has understanding of confidentiality, shows problem identification, conflict resolution, and resource locating skills.E. Skills and Abilities:--- American Heart Association HealthCare Provider BLS --- Good communication skills--- Ability to operate various types of equipment. --- Demonstration of aseptic technique and principles--- Demonstration of use of standard precautions and approved isolation techniques--- Basic scrubbing skills for a variety of specialtiesCognitive Skills Required: 1. Ability to read and follow written English protocols as necessary.2. Ability to follow verbal communications.3. Ability to understand written and spoken English, to remember and to understand the written and spoken word.4. Organize and express thoughts in spoken English words to others, so they will understand.5. Ability to problem solves with a variety of variables and interprets instructions. 6. Problem sensitivity: Ability to interpret assessments to tell when something is wrong or likely to go wrong; identify the whole problem.7. Must be able to communicate with all educational levels and display good human relations.8. Must be able to perform duties in an atmosphere of constant interruptions.9. Ability to learn technical material and equipment.10. Ability to enter and obtain information from a computer.11. Ability to read and understand the administration, actions, and or side effects of medications. 12. Ability to read and follow established hospital policy, nursing service policies and procedures, unit specific policies and procedures and standards of practice and care.13. Must be able to remember words, numbers, procedures, and pieces of information.14. Information ordering: follows rules correctly, arranges actions in a certain order.15. Must be able to organize and maintain flexible scheduling to coordinate all job responsibilities.What types of Cases do you see on a daily bases? Total joints-revision and primary/bilateral/anterior and posterior hips, spine fusion-posterior/anterio, cysto-stone/stents, colon resection-open, lap/hand, hernia-open/lap, hysterectomy-vag/open, uro-gyn slings, nephrectomy-open/lap hand, lap band, breast reduction, mastectomy, breast reconstruction, ortho trauma, arthroscopy, lap chole, lap appy, peds ent, thryroid, and misc of every specialty. What kind of cases does the tech need to be proficient in? They need to be proficient in Ortho-total joints and trauma, Neuro-spine and crani, general, colorectal, plastics, urology, ent, gyn, podiatry.How many cases per day? We average 10-12How many OR Suites? 5 currentlyOrtho, Neuro, General, Urology must be strong, ent, plastics, gyne can be competent
